When you focus on regional economic development, you must take into consideration the economic value of our local arts community. More people in Denver attend arts events each year than sporting events. The arts are an economic driver for our community and we need to continue to support and grow our local arts community.
I value the economic engine the arts are for our community, but the arts also are so much more. I’ve recently attended some events at the Fine Arts Center where art was used as the catalyst to open dialogues on interesting topics such as censorship and homelessness.
Art allows us to discuss topics and explore ideas from new perspectives and to open our eyes to new ways of doing things. Art and culture are a part of the soul of our community and we need to support, grow and acknowledge the role the arts plays in our local economy and community.
